O jogador pode se tornar amigo dos moradores da Vila dos Pelicanos. À medida que suas amizades se aprofundam, as linhas de diálogo dos moradores tornam-se mais amigáveis, ocorrem cenas chamadas de eventos de corações e os aldeões lhe enviarão presentes pelo correio.

Sistema de Pontos
Cada aldeão tem uma pontuação de amizade representada por um medidor de dez corações (para um aldeão normal) ou um medidor de doze compassos (para seu cônjuge):
Cada coração tem 250 pontos de amizade. Você pode ver seus relacionamentos na aba social do menu do jogo.
Você pode aumentar pontos de amizade por:
- Conversando com os moradores (+10 se o aldeão estiver no meio de uma animação especial, como exercitar ou usar uma câmera, caso contrário, +20; só pode marcar uma vez por dia);
- Completar uma missão de entrega para eles (+150);
- Dando-lhes um presente que eles gostam (ver Presentes);
- Fazer certas escolhas em seus eventos de corações.
Você pode perder pontos de amizade da seguinte forma:
- Não conversando com o morador (-2/dia);
- Presenteando com algo que eles não gostem (ver Presentes);
- Batendo neles com o estilingue;
- Atravessando uma lata de lixo quando estão perto (-25, exceto Linus que não se importa).
Quando o medidor de coração de um aldeão estiver cheio, ele não vai mais se deteriorar ao longo do tempo, mesmo se você nunca conversar com eles. (Se o NPC é romance, mas você não deu a eles um buquê, o medidor do coração é considerado cheio em 8 corações). Ele ainda pode diminuir por outros meios (por exemplo, dar-lhes um presente ruim).
Quando o medidor de coração de um aldeão é de pelo menos 2 corações, você pode entrar em seu quarto.
Presentes
Você pode dar a cada aldeão dois presentes por semana (um por dia), como indicado pelas caixas de seleção na aba social. Você sempre pode dar-lhes um presente no aniversário, mesmo se você já lhes deu dois naquela semana. Depois de casar-se com um aldeão, você pode dar-lhes um presente todos os dias da semana.
Cada aldeão tem gostos e desgostos individuais, o que afeta quantos pontos de amizade são obtidos quando você dá um presente. Os pontos de amizade são multiplicados em seu aniversário (× 8) e Troca de Presentes (× 5):

Eventos de coração
Ganhar amizade com cada aldeão irá desbloquear eventos únicos (veja o artigo de cada aldeão para os requisitos). É possível perder permanentemente alguns eventos, embora a maioria dos eventos possa ser visualizada no seu lazer ou fora de ordem.
Romance

Alguns aldeões podem ter um romance com o jogador (veja [[Aldeões # Candidatos ao casamento] candidatos a casamento]]. Uma vez que você alcançou oito corações com um aldeão elegível, você pode dar-lhes um buquê para destravar o nono e décimo corações. (Você pode dar buquês a vários aldeões sem repercussões antes do casamento. Fazer isso depois do casamento pode perder pontos de amizade com seu cônjuge.) Uma vez que você chegou a dez corações com um aldeão elegível, você pode dar-lhes um Pingente da Sereia para propor casamento.
Depois de se casar com um aldeão, eles obtêm um medidor de amizade ampliado de doze corações. Alcançando o décimo terceiro coração oculto, você terá um stardrop.
Festivals

Três festivais podem afetar os pontos de amizade:
- Dança das Flores aumenta pontos de amizade com seu parceiro de dança.
- O Luau aumenta ou diminui os pontos de amizade com todos os aldeões.
- O seu presente para o seu amigo secreto no Festival da Estrela Invernal vale 5 vezes a quantidade normal de pontos de amizade.

Amores Universais
